Journalist, Writer
Maggie Mertens is a writer and journalist located in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has appeared on NPR, MSNBC.com and in Seattle Weekly and the San Diego Reader. She has covered health and health policy for Shots: NPR’s health blog and Kaiser Health News. An experienced features and news writer, Mertens has also spent time writing for an alt-weekly in Seattle, covering a small town in Western Massachusetts for a community daily and freelancing for a number of different publications.
Mertens is also an experienced web producer with two-plus years of production experience at NPR, Kaiser Health News and Bloomberg Government. She is proficient in basic HTML, Dreamweaver and multimedia editing.
Mertens earned her B.A. in English and Italian Studies from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. She is currently a candidate for an M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction Writing at The New School University.
